Event Planning

I have years of event planning experience.

In an “always online” world, physical events are a great opportunity to build real world connections.

My experience in event planning and promotion comes from one of two main categories: (1) a multi-year academic event series sponsored by the Phenomenology Research Group at Loyola University Chicago, and (2) arts & culture events organized on behalf of Hump Day News, QRO Magazine, and Cambridge Day.

Arts and Culture

Cambridge Day

In 2025 I organized the first (and projected to be annual) Cambridge Day Record Store Walk on April 12.

The idea of a “record store day walk” builds off my music coverage at Cambridge Day and borrows from a similar event I observed while living in Chicago for many years (hat tip, Chirp Radio).

Hump Nights

In 2023 Hump Day News launched Hump Nights, an arts & culture event series in which we books the acts, handle the promotion, or both. Through the series, I’ve partnered with artists, bookers, and venues across the Boston area, including Crystal Ballroom, Midway Cafe, Deep Cuts, Somerville Theatre, Capitol Theatre, Regent Theatre, Silhouette Lounge and more.

Our flagship promotion is a monthly ticket giveaway in which the lucky winner gets a pair of tickets to the entire month’s Hump Nights slate.

QRO Magazine

In 2010, while a writer at QRO Magazine, I was contacted by an Atlanta band looking for a gig in Boston. I proposed to the editorial staff that we sponsor a showcase. I booked the bands, reserved the venue, and promoted the show through the site and social media. Thus began a short but rewarding run of showcases and at least one sponsorship.

  • (QRO-sponsored) Neon Marshmallow Fest: NYC (10/14/2011)
  • QRO & Creamteam Present: WAY OUT WEIRD (4/21/2011)
  • QRO & Creamteam Present: HOLIDAY PARTY (11/4/2010)
  • AMPEATER/QRO Magazine Showcase at Northside Festival (6/27/2010)
  • QRO PRESENTS: NERD PARADE at P.A.’s Lounge (5/17/2010)

Academic

Phenomenology Research Group

In 2011 I co-founded the Phenomenology Research Group with faculty and students while I was in the doctoral program at Loyola University Chicago.

The group regularly held philosophy workshops, talks, seminars and conferences; used social technologies to built a network of like-minded researchers; and hosted visiting scholars from around the world.

From about 2011-2016 I was chiefly in charge of producing promotional material, the newsletter, and handling sundry logistics to ensure the ongoing growth and success of the series.
