I have 10+ years of involvement with the debate community, serving at various times as moderator, judge, and coach. Debate teaches thinking, speaking, and listening skills that are essential in a functioning democracy. Studies also show that student involvement with debate grows confidence and improves academic achievement.
I’ve founded or revived debate clubs at two different schools, coaching students from 6th to 10th grade. I’ve also been a registered member of the National Speech & Debate Association, leveraging the NSDA’s excellent debate curriculum to teach students about the principles of critical thinking, rhetoric, and communication.
Here are some examples of asynchronous learning modules I put together for students so they could learn and practice some basics over summer vacation: Declamation, Dramatic Interpretation, Poetry Recitation, and Storytelling.
I’m proud to have taken part in the following events and programs.
